TAHLEQUAH, Okla. – The Northeastern State baseball team lost to Washburn 15-6 in the second of a three-game series Saturday afternoon at Rousey Field.

The RiverHawks fell to 8-7 overall and 2-3 in the MIAA, while the Ichabods improved to 7-6 on the year and 3-2 in league play.

Washburn belted 21 hits, which was the most conceded by NSU since April 25, 2014, when these same Ichabods tallied 22 hits. The RiverHawks could only respond with 11 hits.

WU jumped out to a 5-1 lead after the second inning and never looked back. Northeastern State made the game interesting after plating four in the sixth to get within 8-6, but the visitors erupted for two in the seventh and five in the eighth to run away from the green and white.

Junior
Bryce Davenport led the RiverHawks with a 3-for-4 effort at the plate. Senior
Jamie Graeser went 1-for-1 as a pinch hitter and recorded a pair of runs batted in. Seniors
Cody Begovich and
Gabriel Wurth both finished 2-for-4.

Tyler Yancey (1-1) was saddled with the loss after giving up eight runs on nine hits in 5.2 innings. Junior

Tristan Gooden and
James Cowell all saw time on the hill in relief. They combined to give up seven runs on 12 hits in the final 3.1 frames.

Nick Silva (2-0) conceded five runs on eight hits in 5.2 innings for Washburn. He picked up the win after striking out six and walking two. Relievers Jaren Kutzke, Greg Mason and Zach Linquist closed out the remainder of the game and combined to allow just one run.

Parker Gibson was 4-for-5 with three RBI and two runs to lead the Ichabods. David Gauntt, Lance Barkley and Tanner Triggs all roped three hits each. Barkley and Payton Soicher tallied three RBI, and Gauntt touched home three times.

NSU and WU will both attempt to take the series victory in the Sunday matinee. First pitch is scheduled for noon.
