MARYVILLE, Mo. – The Northeastern State softball team lost twice to Northwest Missouri State Saturday afternoon at Bearcat Field.

The RiverHawks (12-11) fell to 0-4 in MIAA play for the second-straight year, while the Bearcats improved to 13-3 overall and 3-1 in the conference. NWMSU slid past NSU 3-2 in the first game before earning an 8-0 run-rule victory over the RiverHawks in the second game. Northeastern State failed to record a hit in Game 2.

NSU totaled five hits total in the two contests and finished with a .122 batting average (5-for-41). The last time the RiverHawks were no-hit was March 21, 2014 against Fort Hays State.

Northeastern State will return home for four league games March 11-12 against Lincoln and Lindenwood. The series with the Blue Tigers is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.

NORTHWEST MISSOURI STATE 3, NORTHEASTERN STATE 2Northwest Missouri State plated two runs in the second inning and stayed on top for the remainder of the contest. The Bearcats added what proved to be the game-winning tally in the fourth, as Northeastern State could only muster a pair of runs.

The first run for the RiverHawks was scored in the fourth frame, which snapped a 20-inning scoreless streak.

Madison Boyd was 2-for-4 at the plate, and the two runs were scored by redshirt freshman
Haley Acrey and junior
Ryan Martin. Neither registered a hit.

Senior
Kayce Wooldridge (8-4) had another solid showing in the circle but was forced to take the loss after allowing three runs (one earned) on six hits in 6.0 frames. She struck out three and walked two.

Kendle Schieber (6-2) earned the victory after conceding two runs on five hits in a complete-game effort.

Torri Blythe finished 3-for-3 with three RBI. She entered the game with three runs batted in all season. Jessica Rawie scored twice.

NORTHWEST MISSOURI STATE 8, NORTHEASTERN STATE 0 (5 innings)The Bearcats scored two in the third, two in the fourth and four in the fifth to collect the run-rule triumph over NSU. The RiverHawks did not have anybody reach base as Sarah Baldwin (3-1) tossed a five-inning perfect game. She struck out five and did not issue a walk.

Delaney Gray (0-3) gave up six runs on five hits in 4.0 innings to take the loss. She struck out one and walked three.

Kiana Baderdeen was the lone Bearcat with multiple hits, as she finished 2-for-3 with two RBI. Schieber scored twice despite failing to record a hit.

The loss marked the fourth time in the last six games in which Wooldridge did not pitch that the RiverHawks were defeated by a run rule.
