FHSU claims series after taking Game 2

Northeastern State falls to Fort Hays State 11-4 Saturday in Hays

HAYS, Kan. – The Northeastern State baseball team lost 11-4 to Fort Hays State Saturday afternoon at Larks Park.
                                              
The RiverHawks dropped to 15-14 overall and 9-10 in the MIAA, while the Tigers improved to 15-15 on the year and 9-10 in the league. FHSU has won the first two games of the 3-game series.
 
Fort Hays State outhit Northeastern State by a 15-7 margin, and both teams had just one error.
 
Senior Cody Begovich led NSU with a 2-for-4 effort. He also drove in two runs. Junior Bryce Davenport hit his sixth home run of the season and scored twice, and junior Colby Chavez recorded his first homer as a member of the RiverHawks.
 
True freshman Zach Parish (4-2) took the loss after allowing six runs on nine hits in 6.1 innings. He struck out six and walked four. Junior Zack Hammock conceded one run on two hits in 0.2 innings, and junior Kyle Emmons threw the last inning and gave up four runs on four hits.
 
Alex King paced the Tigers with a 4-for-5 effort. He recorded three runs batted in, while scoring twice. Caleb Cherryholmes was 3-for-5 with an RBI and three runs scored, while Connor Ross added two hits and three runs. Nick Hammeke finished 2-for-4 with two RBI.
 
Kyle Vogt (4-5) earned the win after allowing three runs on six hits in 7.0 innings. He struck out seven and walked just two. Giles Fox tossed the final 1.2 frames and collected his third save of the year.
 
The series finale will be contested at noon April 3.
