TAHLEQUAH, Okla. – The Northeastern State men's soccer team suffered a 2-0 loss to Drury to begin the new year Thursday night at DeLoache Field.

The RiverHawks opened the season 0-1, while the Panthers are 1-0 to start the campaign.

The first goal of the match came in the 44th minute, when Antoine Vial and Charles Guelly connected on a couple of short passes to get behind the NSU defense. Vial finished with his first goal of the year.

Guelly then found the back of the net in the 68th minute from Ben Bruce to seal the win for the visiting side.

Northeastern State outshot Drury 17-14, but DU goalkeeper Nicolas Hein (1-0) stopped all six shots on frame.

Jackson Biles (0-1) allowed both goals and finished with six saves in 90 minutes. Junior midfielder
Trevor Reed paced the RiverHawks with five shots overall.

NSU will now head to Quincy, Illinois, to take on Quincy University at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 4.
