FAYETTE, IA- Northeastern State's men soccer needed overtime to get a big MIAA conference road win with a 2-1 victory over Upper Iowa here at Patterson Field Sunday afternoon.
NSU improves to 4-4 and 1-1 on the year, while the Peacocks fall to 3-5 and 1-1.
The RiverHawks for the second game in a row, allowed its opponent to score an early goal as UIU took a 1-0 on a goal from Fausto Ordenana just nine minutes into the contest.
Northeastern Stat e's Jacob Weaver shot from 25 yards a few minutes later tied match at 1-1. That score would hold heading into the half. The RiverHawks and Peacocks managed to get off seven shots in the first half with each keeper collecting three saves.
In the second half, Northeastern State would keep UIU keeper Connor Rortvedt busy, tallying 13 shots, nine of which were saves by Rotvedt. After giving up the early goal, NSU keeper Ryan Davis and the RiverHawks defense held tough as the Peacocks launched 10 shots, none of which were on goal in the second stanza as the match would head to overtime.
In the extra period, Nikolai Solomon delivered the game winner with less than three minutes to go as he took a deflection off a NSU corner for the victory.
The RiverHawks will be off until October 2nd when It takes on Fort Hays State at Deloach Field. Game time is set for 3:00 pm.
