Torrey hits 26 points but NSU falls 66-62 at Lincoln

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – Rylie Torrey led the RiverHawks with 26 points but NSU cooled off in the homestretch to fall 66-62 at Lincoln in Jefferson City, Mo. on Saturday afternoon. 
 
Northeastern State rallied back from an eight-point halftime deficit to lead as many as seven with just over a minute remaining in the third period.   The RiverHawks were ahead by four, 60-56, with 6:02 left in regulation but they would only make one bucket the rest of the way to allow the Blue Tigers to crawl back and pass NSU.
 
Torrey knocked down five treys and had ten of NSU's 25 points in the third quarter; Cailyn Long added ten as the other RiverHawks' player in double-figures.  Northeastern State trailed Lincoln by one with 36 rebounds, Mary Jane Buschmann had seven as a team high, and she chipped in seven points.
 
Turnovers spoiled Northeastern State on Saturday with 15, Lincoln would out-score NSU 15-to-7 to help separate themselves as time closed.   Lincoln also doubled NSU's points in the paint with 24, and their bench had 28 points to the RiverHawks' seven.   The Blue Tigers had four in double-figures with Hunter Yoakum having a 13-point afternoon.
 
Kylie Looney scored seven points and added four rebounds, with four assists.  Hailey Chamberlin came off the bench and in ten minutes she pulled down four boards and had four points.
 
The RiverHawks led in overall shooting with 42.3-percent (22-52) and half of NSU's 22 buckets came from the arc.  Lincoln shot 38.5-percent (25-65) on their side of the floor with eight made treys. 
 
Saturday's loss sends Northeastern State to 6-8 overall and 2-4 in the MIAA, the Blue Tigers are 2-11 and 1-5 in league action.
 
The RiverHawks will be back at the NSU Event Center on Thursday, Jan. 12 at 5:30 p.m. to host Washburn; the contest can be heard live on Billy Country 96.3 FM.
