TAHLEQUAH – No. 25 Northeastern State outlasted Ouachita Baptist 4-1 with four second half goals for their sixth victory in a row on Thursday evening.  

Along with the win, Joe Garcia set a major NSU milestone with a PK goal in the 72nd minute for his sixth consecutive contest with a goal and breaking a 13-year-old record.   Prior to Thursday night, the mark was set four times and last set twice in 2004 by Sergio Salinas; Grant Harkreader (1998) and Phil Barkley (1986) also shared the previous NSU record.

The RiverHawks trailed just over 57 minutes after the Tigers kicked in a goal in front of the net at the 17-minute mark.  Tyler Walker tied the game with his first career goal on a shot from 25-yards out that was just out of the reach of the OBU keeper on the left side of the net.

Jackson Padilla kicked in the first of his two goals of the night in 70th minute on a breakaway from ten yards out for the eventual game winner.   Garcia had his tenth goal of the season on a PK to move the RiverHawks up 3-1 and Padilla made the contest out of reach for the Tigers with his sixth goal of the season in the 81st minute.

Despite trailing for the majority of the contest, NSU had a 15-to-6 lead on shots, and on corner kicks they led 9-to-2 over the Tigers.

Friday's win moves Northeastern State to 9-4 overall while Ouachita Baptist falls to 5-7.

The RiverHawks will be on the road next to visit Southwest Baptist on Monday, Oct. 23 for a 3 p.m. start.
