BOLIVAR, Mo. – No. 25 Northeastern State pushed their winning streak to seven with a 2-1 victory on Monday night over Southwest Baptist.Â
Â
Aaron Ugbah set the pace early for the RiverHawks with a goal in the 12th minute on a cross field pass from
James Doyle to beat the SBU defender to find the net. Later in the first half
Ismael Serratos picked up a pass near the front of the box from
Joe Garcia and put NSU up 2-0 in the 38th minute.Â
Â
Southwest Baptist's lone goal came late in the contest with seven minutes remaining to break up the NSU shutout bid. The Bearcats (1-13 (1-5 MIAA)) were limited to only five shots on Monday night, all of which were in the second half. Northeastern State made season high 26 shots against SBU, with eight of those on-goal.
Â
For the first time during the seven game winning streak, NSU didn't receive a goal from Garcia who saw his program best streak of six straight contests with a goal come to a close. However, with the assist against the Bearcats he has scored a point in the last seven games.
Â
The NSU win on Monday pulled the RiverHawks even for the MIAA lead with Fort Hays State with a 5-1 conference record.Â
Â
With a 10-4 record, Northeastern State will return home Thursday to host Oklahoma Baptist at 7:30 p.m. in non-conference play.
