ST. CHARLES, Mo. --
Mariah Nicolet's two goals were enough to out-power Lindenwood on the road Friday night and to keep the RiverHawks undefeated through their first ten contests.
This is the second straight season that NSU has opened the season with ten straight wins and are one of the final six teams in NCAA Division II women's soccer to not have a loss or draw on their record. One way or another, the number of undefeated teams will drop on Sunday with Northeastern State traveling to #2 Central Missouri who happens to have an 11-0 record. In 2016, the Jennies halted NSU's 12-0 start to the season in Tahlequah.
On Friday night, the RiverHawks were slow out of the gates with Lindenwood limiting them to three shots, while they took seven corner kicks. Nicolet's goal in the 37th minute turned the evening around for Northeastern State in the second half where they out-shot the Lions 10-to-4.  At the 66th minute, Nicolet kicked in her fifth goal of the season on a pass from
Sarah Rector to increase the NSU lead to 2-0 on the Lions.Â
Julia Mathis blew the contest wide open toward a NSU victory in the 79th minute scoring her 25th career goal.
Lindenwood (4-7-0, 1-3-0 MIAA) would spoil the shutout for the RiverHawks scoring with two minutes left in regulation.
Meg Smith had four saves in-front of the net for NSU and is 8-0 at goalkeeper this year.
Northeastern State is now 4-0 in MIAA play and will have their showdown with UCM at 1 p.m. on Sunday in Warrensburg, Mo.
