NSU's streak up to ten with 2-1 win at Upper Iowa

FAYETTE, Iowa -- Jacob Weaver provided all of Northeastern State's offense as they won their tenth contest in a row, 2-1, at Upper Iowa on Friday afternoon.

Both of Weaver's goals came in the first half where NSU out-shot the Peacocks 10-to-1.  The sophomore put the RiverHawks ahead on their second attempt at the penalty kick in the 15th minute.  Joe Garcia had a PK shot just a minute beforehand that was blocked by the Upper Iowa keeper.

Weaver's second goal came ten minutes later from the middle of the field and 18 yards out for his fourth goal of the season.

In the second half, play was more balanced with the Peacocks (6-10, 0-7 MIAA) holding a 10-to-8 shot advantage on Northeastern State; Upper Iowa's lone goal came in the 51st minute.  RiverHawks goalkeeper Ryan Davis stopped six shots at the net which was his second highest total of the season.

With the victory, Northeastern State needs to defeat Lindenwood on Sunday to clinch a share of the MIAA title.  Should NSU win it will be their second regular season MIAA Championship, and fourth overall in program history.

Northeastern State is 13-4 overall and 6-1 in MIAA play following the victory, Sunday's regular season finale at Lindenwood starts at 4 p.m.
