Northeastern State falls 100-88 to Arkansas Tech

TAHLEQUAH – Northeastern State had five players in double-figures with true-freshman Coryon Mason having a career night off the of the bench with 19 points but Arkansas Tech (8-1) out-gunned the RiverHawks (3-8) 100-88 on 18 three-pointers on Tuesday night at the NSU Event Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Northeastern State kept the contest inside of a possession through the first 11-minutes and led the Wonder Boys 27-25 on a Jamir Andrews layup with 9:12 remaining in the opening half.
  • Tech regained the lead on a Harris Brown 3-pointer at the 8:51 mark to start an 11-2 run on the RiverHawks.
  • NSU swapped momentum with the Wonder Boys and went on a 6-0 run to get inside of a point (36-35) on a Trent Cantrell trey with 4:03 left in the half.
  • The Wonder Boys scored ten unanswered points on 4-for-4 shooting to go up 46-35 on the RiverHawks with 2:34 remaining in half.
  • Montre' Williams hit a trey and a layup to move NSU back inside of three-possessions (49-42) but it would be an eight-point (52-44) deficit at half.
  • Mason opened the second half with four-points on a pair of jumpers before ATU went on a 10-1 run to extend their lead to 13-points (62-49) at the 15:48 mark.
  • Trailing by 13, Mason hit back-to-back treys to cap a 15-4 run to get the RiverHawks within a pair (66-64) of the Wonder Boys with 11:55 remaining in the contest.
  • The Wonder Boys pulled back ahead by double-digits using four three-pointers to lead 80-70 with 6:27 remaining, and were out in front the rest of the way.
NOTABLES
  • Josh Bougher was second on the NSU squad with 17 points and had his first double-double of the season with ten boards.
  • Cantrell tied a career-mark with six made shots and was two-points short of his career-high with 14; he also had a career-high four steals which is the most this season for NSU.
  • Williams had ten points and now has 867 in 91 games played at Northeastern State.
  • Northeastern State made a season high 37 buckets and had their second best shooting night at 52.1-percent on 71 attempts.
  • Isaiah Bellamy made his debut for Northeastern State playing 18 minutes off the bench with five points scored.
  • The Wonder Boys out-rebounded the RiverHawks 40-32 and their 18 three-pointers was the second highest total given up this season by NSU (19 at Northwest Missouri on Nov. 30, 2017).
