Northeastern State falls short at Missouri Western

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – Northeastern State had four in double-figures but they could not figure out a way to get past Missouri Western on Saturday evening, falling 70-66 to end a four game road trip.

Jamir Andrews led NSU with 15 points, Josh Bougher had 12, with Lucas Antunez and Montre' Williams both having ten points each.

The RiverHawks led as many as six points and were in front for the first seven minutes. Missouri Western would finish the back end of the half on 21-9 run, with Northeastern State shooting 4-for-13 during that span.  A trey by Aztunez with 38 seconds left in the half prevented a double-digit Griffon lead into the locker room, but they would trail 33-21.

Out of the intermission, NSU had a pair of steals and opened on a 10-2 run to only trail the Griffons by one, 35-34.  After trading buckets for the next couple of minutes, Andrews hit a trey to take a 46-45 lead with 13:16 left. However, the lead was the final one of the night, and the Griffons would stay in front of the remainder of the way.

Missouri Western (2-6, 1-1 MIAA) had a slight edge from the field shooting 46.2-percent (24-52), with NSU going 40.7-percent (24-59) on their side of the floor.  Gordon Hill paced the RiverHawks off the glass with a career high 10 rebounds, NSU would had a 35-29 lead over Missouri Western.

The RiverHawks (3-5, 0-2 MIAA) have lost three in a row, all on the road, after opening the trip with a controlling win prior to the Thanksgiving break at Oklahoma Baptist.  Rolls change for NSU in the coming weeks with five of the next six contests being at home starting on Tuesday where Central Oklahoma will come to Tahlequah for a 7:30 p.m. start.
