Softball falls to Missouri Western and Ouachita Baptist

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Northeastern State dropped both of their games on Saturday falling 6-2 to Missouri Western and 8-5 at Ouachita Baptist.

Haley Acrey homered in both games, Paige Gann and Ryan Martin also went yard for the RiverHawks, with Jessica Boone having a pair of hits against Missouri Western.

Game one was played at Henderson State, with the Griffons scoring four runs in the opening frame on two hits, and a NSU error before the bats went quiet for three innings.  Acrey and Gann put the RiverHawks on the board with back-to-back shots in the bottom of the fourth to get them within two.  However, in the next frame Mo. Western hit a two-run homer with no-outs to pull ahead by four again.   NSU went down in order in the fifth and sixth, Martin got into scoring possession in the seventh on one out but the RiverHawks flew out and grounded out to drop the opener.

Jennifer Wolf (0-1) started for NSU and went four innings in the circle, Sylver Collins finished the contest allowing one hit, and striking out four.

The night cap was played on OBU's field with NSU striking first in the second inning with Boone hitting a RBI double.  However, in the bottom frame two errors proved to be costly for NSU, and the Lady Tigers scored six unearned runs.

NSU rallied back and Arcey hit a three run shot to right center and Martin dropped a solo bomb to left field bringing the RiverHawks within a run in the third

The Lady Tigers picked up an insurance run in the fourth with Northeastern State putting a runner on by error with one out.  A stolen base moved the runner into scoring possession and a single moved them ahead 7-5.  In the sixth, OBU did their damage with two-outs with a RBI double to pulled ahead by three.

The RiverHawks went down in the order in the seventh to fall to 1-3 after the first weekend of the season.  Collins (1-1) opened the game with two innings tossed, and all six runs unearned.

Missouri Western moved to 4-0 and Ouachita Baptist is now 3-1 after playing NSU.

Northeastern State will be off until Feb. 15 where they will host Newman at RiverHawks Park.
