NSU wins wild 11-9 affair over Southwest Baptist

TAHLEQUAH – A go-ahead sixth inning home run by Dakota Morse snapped a six game skid by the RiverHawks to beat Southwest Baptist 11-9 in a wild Saturday afternoon at Rousey Field.

Northeastern State at one-point led 7-0 after batting through the order in the opening frame and knocking out SBU's starter after only recording one out.  However, the Bearcats scratched their way out plating four in the second and three more in the third inning to tie the game.

Michael Rhea gave the RiverHawks an 8-7 lead in the third off of a two-out single up the middle but Southwest Baptist took the advantage in the next frame scoring on a RBI single and a run-scoring error.

The RiverHawks slowly fought their way out putting 1s on the scoreboard between the fifth and seventh inning.  Butch Rea tied the game at nine in the fifth on a ground ball out, and then Morse put NSU ahead on a homer to left field in the sixth.  Rea drove in an insurance run for the RiverHawks on a two-out single to left field an inning later.

Zach Parish started the game and went 2 2/3 innings, James Cowell came in and threw 2 1/3 in relief.  Dustin Berrong (2-1) settled the game out in the fifth throwing four scoreless frames for the win.
