ST. JOSEPH, Mo. -- Northeastern State dropped both games of their doubleheader at Missouri Western State on Saturday. The RiverHawks were outscored 4-1 in the opener and lost on a Grffion's 5-4 walk off in the nightcap.

Poor weather on Friday afternoon in St. Joseph forced the RiverHawks to an idle day on the road and to play two on Saturday for the first time in over a month.

The two wins kept the Griffons perfect at home in five games, and despite their 14-11 overall record, they are now 11-4 MIAA play.

Chad Reibenspies tied the opener with double in the fourth for NSU's lone run of the game.  However, the tie was short lived and Mo. Western State plated the go-ahead run in bottom half of the frame on a homer.

After two quiet innings, MWSU doubled their lead to 4-1 on the RiverHawks with a home run to center.

Northeastern State who was limited to six hits in the game went down in order in the eighth and ninth innings to drop the contest.Â

Reibenspies went 2-for-4 with a RBI and double,
Hunter Neal (2-2) tossed a complete game with five strikeouts, and three earned runs charged.

In the nightcap, NSU struck first in the opening frame with Reibenspies hitting a sac fly and
Jordan Payne doubling down the left field line to put them up 2-0. The Griffons plated their first run in fourth with one swing of the bat before the RiverHawks in the next frame scored their third run on a fielding error; Reibenspies in the same inning moved NSU up 4-1 with a RBI single through the right side.

In the seventh, a leadoff walk came back to hurt the RiverHawks with Missouri Western following up with a RBI double. A sac bunt by the Griffons moved the runner to third and they singled through the hole into center plating their second run to make it a 4-3 ball game.

Missouri Western State went down in order in the eighth but opened the ninth with a leadoff single. NSU caught a break on a sac bunt attempt that got the lead runner out but MWSU hit two straight singles to load the bases. Northeastern State allowed the next batter to walk in five pitches to tie the game and following a strike out, the Griffons won on a single to left center.

For the second game in a row, the RiverHawks were limited to six hits with
Butch Rea scoring two runs.Â
Nolan Sturgeon went six innings in the no-decision,
Zach Poehl threw two, and
Dustin Berrong (2-2) was charged with the loss. Â Â

Northeastern State (12-11, 6-6 MIAA) will look avoid a sweep on Sunday with a 1 p.m. first pitch to conclude the series.
