TOPEKA, Kan. – Northeastern State put together only four hits and dropped their second game to Washburn, 7-2, on Saturday.
Dakota Woods had two of the RiverHawks' hits with a double, and RBI to the losing effort to the Ichabods.
Nearly all the scoring happened in three straight frames starting with a Washburn two run homer in the third. Northeastern State tied the game in the next frame on a Woods double, and then
Tristan Ridenour later doubled in the second run.
The difference in the game would be in the home half of the fourth with Washburn loading the bases with one-out. A single plated two runs, and then a wild pitch scored WU's third run; the Ichabods pushed their lead to 6-2 on a squeeze bunt with a runner standing on third.
Northeastern State had only one hit the rest of the way with Washburn plating their seventh run in the eighth inning.
Zach Parish (0-2) started on the hill for NSU and went 3 2/3 innings in the loss,
Tyler Yancey tossed 3 1/3 scoreless out of the bullpen, and
James Cowell pitched the eighth.
With the win Washburn (10-6, 2-3 MIAA) has taken the three game series over the RiverHawks.Â
Northeastern State (9-5, 3-2 MIAA) will look to avoid the sweep on Sunday with a noon first pitch scheduled.
