TOPEKA, Kan. – Northeastern State couldn't hold a three run lead at Washburn and fell 11-7 on Sunday.
The win gave the Ichabods a three game sweep over the RiverHawks to send them to 3-3 after two weeks of MIAA play.
Northeastern State scored in the opening frame on a WU error before taking a 2-1 lead in the bottom half of the inning on a two run double.  After a scoreless inning,
Bryce Davenport put the RiverHawks ahead on a three run shot to right field. In the fourth, NSU added one more to go up 5-2 on a
Dakota Woods ground out RBI.Â
Washburn rallied in the sixth with two outs to single in one run and later NSU hurt themselves on a ground ball to allow two more to come in to tie the game at five each. The Ichabods continued their scoring in the seventh with five hits to plate four runs to retake the lead.  NSU would score two runs in the eighth but WU picked those runs back up with a two-out triple to go up 11-7.
The RiverHawks would get a lead runner on in the ninth but the next three batters went down in order.
Northeastern State (9-6 overall) had eight hits with Davenport collecting three. Â
Nolan Sturgeon started the game for NSU and went 5 2/3 innings,
Zack Hammock,
Dustin Berrong (1-1), and
Jeremy Mansur all were used out of the bullpen.
NSU will travel to Oklahoma Baptist on Tuesday for a mid-week non-conference meeting at 6 p.m.
