EDMOND –
Butch Rea kept his hitting streak in-tack but a seven run eighth inning by Central Oklahoma put the dagger in what was a close battle in Edmond falling 13-5 on Tuesday afternoon.Â
Â
The Bronchos got their vengeance for a 10-0 shutout in Tahlequah last week to split the weekday series that will conclude next Wednesday at Rousey Field.
Â
Rea singled in the seventh inning and the senior pushed his hitting streak to 21 games.Â
Dakota Woods saw his 11 game hitting streak come to close going hitless in two at-bats, he would draw a walk to keep his reached base streak going to 12.
Â
Central Oklahoma (22-15-1, 12-14 MIAA) struck in the opening inning with three runs, but the RiverHawks worked their way back in the second with
Chad Reibenspies doubling in a run, and
Michael Rhea plating their second RBI on a fielder's choice. Â
Jordan Payne tied the game in the third with a two-out single to center.
Â
The tie game was short lived and UCO retook the lead in the bottom half of the inning scoring a run after a NSU error. Central Oklahoma pushed their lead to 5-3 on a two-out RBI double before
Bryce Davenport got RiverHawks a run away on a suicide squeeze with Payne at third. The Bronchos extended their lead to two in the next frame before the flood gates opened in the eighth.
Â
Trailing 13-4, Woods gave NSU their fifth run on a sac fly in the final inning.
Â
Northeastern State trailed 13-to-7 in the hit column with Payne going 2-for-5.
Â
Shayne Warren (2-3) started the game and went three innings in the loss.
Â
The loss is the fourth in a row for the RiverHawks who drop to 19-18 overall and they are 13-13 in the MIAA.
Â
Northeastern State remains on the road to face Central Missouri for three game series starting on Friday. Â Â
