NSU shutout at #18 Drury

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The RiverHawks came up on the short end of a 3-0 physical shutout at #18 Drury on Thursday night in their season opener.

The contest featured 29 fouls and seven yellow cards but NSU had a difficult time breaking through the Drury defense with eight shots and three attacks on the goal that were stopped by the DU keeper.

Northeastern State only trailed 1-0 the half with the Panthers finding the net from 12 yards out on the right side in the 13th minute.   The Panthers' Ben Bruce did all the damage in the second period with a goal in minute-49 from the right side, and then a penalty kick shot six minutes later.

Joe Garcia had four of the eight shots for NSU.

Ryan Davis played the first 73 minutes at keeper before getting subbed by Thomas Salenbien who made his NSU debut.

The RiverHawks will remain on the road and will face Missouri S&T on Saturday for a 1 p.m. start.
