NSU handles Harding at home with 3-1 win

TAHLEQUAH – One day removed from receiving votes in the United Soccer Coaches Top-25 National Poll, the RiverHawks controlled a 3-1 win on Thursday evening over Harding at DeLoache Field.

Northeastern State picked up a first half goal on the foot of Joe Garcia and in the final 20 minutes they got goals from Ismael Serratos and Ben Watson.

The RiverHawks had a 14-to-10 edge on shots with Watson having a match high five.

Northeastern State managed to get past three-early Harding attacks before the Bison fouled at the 24-minute mark.  The foul gave the RiverHawks a free kick from just outside the box which Garcia kicked past the Bison keeper for his first goal of the season.

Serratos gave his squad some extra insurance in the 73rd minute from ten yards on the far post, Justin Todd picked up the assist on goal to put the RiverHawks up 2-0 on the Bison.

Harding cut down the NSU lead in half with nine minutes to go where they scored on a goal off a rebound inside the box.  However, Watson iced the contest on a breakaway shot in the 87th minute.

Thursday's win moves NSU to 2-3 for the season, while Harding remains winless at 0-3-2.

Northeastern State will be on the road to face Oklahoma Baptist on Monday, Sept. 18 at 7:30 p.m. in Shawnee.
