RiverHawks handle Oklahoma Baptist on the road, win 4-1

SHAWNEE – Northeastern State picked up their third win in row behind a pair of goals by Jackson Padilla on Monday night with RiverHawks beating Oklahoma Baptist 4-1.

Padilla landed his first two goals in his NSU career with his first coming just a minute after he subbed into the game.  The true freshman used a header that was mishandled by the Bison keeper for the opening tally.

The momentum for the game turned toward the RiverHawks' favor with a OBU red card just before the close of the first half allowing Northeastern State to play a man up on the Bison for the remaining time.

Padilla scored the RiverHawks' second goal of the night at the 52nd minute after his slotted the ball past the keeper.

Oklahoma Baptist would make the match interesting for a few minutes where they were able to cut into the NSU lead with a goal in the 61st minute.   However, Nyasha Dube widened the lead ten minutes later with his second career goal that was off the foot of Andrew Galvan to send the RiverHawks up 3-1 to ice the contest.

With five minutes remaining, Joe Garcia gave NSU their fourth goal on a penalty kick.

Despite the score, the RiverHawks were out-shot 18-to-11 by the Bison.  Ryan Davis (3-3) recorded five saves in 85 minutes of work in front of the NSU net.

Monday's win moves Northeastern State to 3-3 overall and Oklahoma Baptist is now 1-3-1 this season.

The RiverHawks will now open MIAA play this Sunday, Sept. 24 at Fort Hays State for a 1 p.m. start time.
