RiverHawks lose in overtime at Fort Hays State, 2-1

HAYS, Kan. – Fort Hays State kicked in a game winning goal in the seventh minute of extra time to beat the RiverHawks 2-1 in a rainy mid-day road contest for Northeastern State.

Sunday's loss snapped a modest three game winning streak by the RiverHawks who are now 3-4 this season and are 0-1 in MIAA play.

All of the scoring in regulation came in two minutes with Aaron Ugbah getting his second goal of the season where he connected on a centering pass from Justin Todd and Parv Nagra in the 50th minute.   The RiverHawks' lead was short lived and 80 seconds later Fort Hays State tied the game on a free kick.

With a steady rain coming down in western Kansas, the match was a defensive battle and pushed the RiverHawks into their second overtime contest of the season.

Following an offside call on NSU in the 97th minute, the Tigers returned the ball back down the field, and broke through on the right side of the box for the game winner.

Both teams played even with 14 shots recorded by the RiverHawks and Tigers; Joe Garcia and Ugbah both had three shots for NSU.

Fort Hays State goes to 2-4-2 and 2-0 in the MIAA with the win over the RiverHawks.

Northeastern State will return home to host Lindenwood on Friday, Sept. 29 at 7 p.m.
