Late PK goal sends NSU to tough 1-0 loss to #6 Midwestern State

TAHLEQUAH – Similar to Northeastern State's visit to Wichita Falls last season their contest came down to the final ten minutes.  However, the roles were reversed with #6 Midwestern State winning 1-0 on a penalty kick in the 83rd minute on Thursday night.

The visit was the first since 2013 for the Mustangs who the RiverHawks (0-3) used to see frequently before NSU's move into the MIAA.  Last season the RiverHawks scored with three minutes to go to down MSU 1-0 in Wichita Falls.   Northeastern State's last four-of-five meetings with the Mustangs (3-0) were a one-point difference, and the one other was a tie.

Northeastern State had a 15-to-9 edge on the Mustangs in shots with the RiverHawks taking six shots on goal; Jackson Padilla led NSU with pair of shots on the MSU keeper.

Ryan Davis played all 90 minutes in front of the NSU net and had three saves.

Thursday's loss was NSU's third straight match where they were shutout on the offensive side of the ball and matches their 2016 season total.  Despite the lack of scoring, two of NSU's losses came late with a 1-0 overtime loss at Missouri S&T and now to Midwestern State on Thursday evening.

Northeastern State will remain at home to host West Texas A&M on Sept. 10 at 7 p.m.
