RiverHawks shutout Emporia State, 1-0

TAHLEQUAH – Northeastern State snapped a three-week winless drought on Sunday afternoon with a 1-0 shutout at home against Emporia State.  The win is NSU's first in MIAA play this season (1-4-2) and sends them to 7-5-2 overall.  The Lady Hornets lost their third in a row to the RiverHawks were shutout for the first time this fall to drop to 9-4-1 (4-3 MIAA).

Paulina Chavez put the RiverHawks ahead first connecting on a pass from Paige Lorenzo in the 13th minute with her fourth goal of the season.  Shots were limited in the first half with both teams having four; the RiverHawks had a 3-1 edge on corner kicks.

In the second half, NSU nearly iced the contest twice with Valeria Pankratova having a shot sail just above the top crossbar in the 70th minute.  Meagan Chase from ten yards out had a shot six minutes later go right of the post to keep the contest at 1-nil.  The Lady Hornets did threaten NSU late with three shots on-goal in the final ten minutes, and a corner kick in the final 30 seconds.

Northeastern State had a slight 10-to-9 edge in shots, with Emporia State having a 5-to-4 edge in corner kicks.  Brennan Hockett had five saves in her fourth shutout of the season.

Northeastern State will head on the road on Friday, Oct. 19 where they will face Missouri Western at 6 p.m.
