RiverHawks topped by Washburn

TOPEKA, Kan. – Jake Pruitt threw two touchdown passes for Northeastern State but they would fall 58-14 on Saturday afternoon to Washburn at Yager Stadium.   Both touchdowns for the RiverHawks came in the second quarter as they would go to 0-6 (0-6 MIAA) this season; Washburn with the win goes to 3-3 (3-3 MIAA).

IN THE BOX SCORE
  • Callen Houston caught a season high seven passes and had 44 receiving yards.
  • Ryheem Brummitt paced the NSU receiving core with 83-yards and caught his third touchdown reception of the season.
  • Pruitt went 11-for-24 in his second start for the RiverHawks with 134 passing yards.
  • Jay Baker was perfect in four pass attempts for 36 yards in the fourth quarter.
  • Jean Bazile paced the NSU defense with 13 tackles.
  • Northeastern State's offense was limited to 166 yards and held to -4 yards rushing.
TURNING POINT
Trailing 28-14 in the second quarter with 3:24 left, the RiverHawks went three-and-out, and was forced to punt the ball back to the Ichabods with two minutes remaining.   Playing on a short field from the NSU 31 yard line, Washburn needed five plays extend their lead to 34-14 at the half.
 
PERFORMANCES TO HIGHLIGHT
  • Brummitt caught a team season high 73-yard touchdown reception to start the second quarter.
  • Courtland Clark had consecutive games with double-digit tackles.  The redshirt-freshman had ten tackles on Saturday and leads the RiverHawks with 47.
  • Nick Thompson caught his first career touchdown catch in the second quarter.

Northeastern State will return to Doc Wadley Stadium to host Lindenwood at 2 p.m.
