Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

RiverHawks set NCAA records in 5-1 win at SBU

BOLIVAR, Mo. – Northeastern State put up four goals inside of five minutes to put away Southwest Baptist, 5-1, on Sunday afternoon.   Three of those goals came in 85 seconds, which is second quickest in NCAA Division II history, besting NSU's previous record that was set this earlier this season by seven seconds.

Joe Garcia scored two of the RiverHawks' goals, both on penalty kicks, to push his consecutive goals streak to 11 matches.

Presently, the NSU senior is tied for the fourth longest streak in NCAA Division II men's soccer history.  Garcia would need to score in the next two contests to catch third on the list, which was set during the 1996 season by Ethan Miller-Bazemore of Sonoma State.

Trevor Reed started the RiverHawks' scoring blitz in the 19th minute and 71 seconds later Aaron Ugbah found the back of the net.  Flynn Semmerling scored just 16 seconds later to make the score 3-0 in favor of the RiverHawks.

Garcia scored the team's fourth goal of the half on a PK in the 24th minute.

Following the half, played was stopped at the 56th minute due to weather.

The Bearcats broke up the shutout after a two-hour delay in the 61st minute before Garcia scored once again on a penalty kick 25 minutes later.

The win sends the RiverHawks to 9-1-1 overall and 2-1-1 in MIAA play, the Bearcats fall to 1-10 (0-4 MIAA).

Northeastern State will remain on the road to face Fort Hays State on Oct. 14 at 1 p.m.
