TAHLEQUAH – Northeastern State halted a four-match skid but finished in a 2-2 draw on Sunday afternoon against Lindenwood. Both teams had endure a 90-minute rain delay and a tornado warning to get to a conclusion at DeLoache Field.
The draw for RiverHawks to go to 6-5-1 (0-4-1 MIAA) is the first at home since Oct. 23, 2011 against East Central (0-0).
Meagan Chase put the RiverHawks in front with a goal in the 18th minute before play was halted.
Lindenwood (5-5-2 (2-2-1 MIAA)) evened the score just two minutes following the stoppage.
Paulina Chavez broke the tie with a breakaway shot that went right of the Lions keeper for her third goal of the season.
The Lions countered one more time in the 63rd minute with the second goal of the contest.
In overtime, the closest NSU would get to scoring was in the 99th minute where a shot by
Valeria Pankratova hit the top post.
Northeastern State out-shot the Lions 22-to-12 with Chase leading the way with four.
Brennan Hockett had six saves from in front of the NSU net.
The RiverHawks will return to the soccer pitch on Friday to host Washburn this Friday at 7 p.m.
