RiverHawks shutout in home finale

TAHLEQUAH – Key turnovers in the second quarter doomed the RiverHawks on Saturday in their home finale falling to cross-state rivals Central Oklahoma 62-0 at Doc Wadley Stadium.  Central Oklahoma captured the President's Cup for the fifth straight season and moved to 7-3 (7-3 MIAA) this season; Northeastern State will fall to 0-10 (0-10 MIAA) overall.
 
Northeastern State was limited to 159 yards of offense with most of it coming on the ground.  Tre'von Overstreet had 56 of the team's 119 rushing yards on 13 carries.  Kevin Jackson had ten rushes for 45 yards. 
 
In the air, the RiverHawks went 6-for-22 for 40 yards.  Joshua Bolden and Isaiah Upshaw both had two receptions.
 
Central Oklahoma had 581 yards of offense with 303 on the ground and Mekail Hall having 200 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
 
TURNING POINT
Trailing 14-0 with just under seven minutes left in the second quarter, the RiverHawks threw interceptions in both of the next two drives.  The Bronchos took advantage and doubled their lead into the intermission with two touchdowns.
 
IN THE BOX SCORE
  • The Bronchos scored 21 points off NSU turnovers. 
  • Jean Bazile led the NSU defense with 14 tackles.
  • Jack Alspaugh had his first career interception.
  • Dakarai Hamilton broke up four Central Oklahoma passes.
  • Northeastern State was limited to eight first downs.

Central Oklahoma leads the in-state rivalry cup 12-9 over the RiverHawks.
 
COMING UP
Northeastern State will close out its 2018 season on Nov. 10 at Fort Hays State for a 2 p.m. kickoff.
