AUSTIN, Texas -- Â Northeastern State's
Erick Espinosa homered and doubled but three errors were too much to overcome as St. Edwards pulled out a 5-4 victory on Saturday.
NSU falls to 1-2 on the year, while the Hilltoppers improve to 2-1.
Espinosa tied the game in the third inning with his first home run of the year to tie the game at 1-1. The second home run of the contest in the fifth pushed the Hilltoppers back in front 2-1. St. Edwards would capitalize on the first RiverHawks error in the same frame to lead 3-1 after five innings.
The second of three errors came in the sixth inning that led to another Hilltoppers run for a 4-1 advantage.
Espinosa's RBI double in the eighth inning sparked a RiverHawks rally. Trailing 4-2,
Zach Henderson doubled home two to tie the game 4-4.
St. Edwards put two runners on in the bottom of the ninth inning and the third RiverHawks error brought home the winning run.
Nolan Sturgeon went three plus innings in his first career start. The RiverHawks sent five pitchers to the hill with
John Rains getting the loss.
NSU will continue its season opening road trip on February 6, as it will take on Southwestern Oklahoma State. Game time is set for 1:00 pm.
