RiverHawks Split, Davis Picks Up 200th Collegiate Win

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. -- Northeastern State coach Clay Davis picked up his 200th collegiate coaching victory and Paige Gann hit her second home run of the year as the RiverHawks pulled out a 5-3 victory in nine innings over Christian Brothers University at the Ronnie Hawkins Invitational on Saturday.

NSU dropped the first game of the day against 10th ranked Southern Arkansas 9-1.

The RiverHawks improve to 3-1 on the young season.

Trailing 3-0 heading into the sixth inning, Jessica Boone walked and Kaleigh Hinkle singled to open the inning. A Sierra Crick single and a Gann double tied the game at 3-3. 

It would stay tied until the ninth inning, where the international tie break rule takes affect . Madison Boyd was placed on second base.  Gann opened the frame with a blast to left center field giving NSU the 5-3 victory.

Gail Young started the game in the circle going five innings giving up three runs on seven hits.  Sydney Balderrama finished the final four innings allowing only one hit to get the win.

In game one of the day, the 10th ranked Muleriders plated seven runs through two innings to capture a 9-1 run rule victory.  Kaleigh Hinkle hit her first home run of the year and 14th of her career in the fifth inning, but was not enough to extend the game. 

Alex Azua (0-1) gave up nine runs on 10 hits in her season debut.

Northeastern State will return to action on February 9th and 10th at the Edmond Regional Festival.
