RiverHawks fall to Rogers State, 12-6

TAHLEQAUH, Okla. -- Northeastern State committed a season high six errors as the RiverHawks dropped a mid-week tilt to Roger State 12-6 at Rousey Field here Tuesday.

NSU falls to 11-10 on the year; RSU improves to 12-6.

Rogers State took advantage of two RiverHawks miscues in the opening frame to take 2-0 lead.

Colton Wright drew a free pass to open the second inning and later scored on a Gabriel Murillo double to cut lead down to 2-1.

NSU tied the game in the third inning as Wright's single plated Alex Massie to tie the game 2-2 after three innings.

Rogers State used two singles, a double and a hits batsman to plate three runs in the third inning to extend its lead to 5-2.

The RiverHawks again would claw its way back in the fifth inning.  Eric Espinosa doubled to lead off the inning, followed by a Zane Takhar single.  A Massie ground out scored Espinosa to trail 5-3. After consecutive walks that loaded the bases, Oscar Resendez Jr. walked to plate a second NSU run to trail 5-4 after five innings.

NSU could not keep up from that point on; the Hillcats would plate seven runs over the final four innings to capture the 12-6 win.

RiverHawks starter Trevor Smith (0-1)was credited with the loss. James Cowell came on in relief and went 3.1 innings giving up five runs on four hits, Brayden Boyd threw 1.1 innings and Nolan Sturgeon went the final 2.1 innings.

Northeastern State will return to MIAA action as Washburn comes to Rousey Field for a weekend series.
