RiverHawks take down #RV Duluth and Minot State

EMPORIA, Kan. – The displaced RiverHawks got off to a strong start on Friday picking up a 5-1 win over #RV Minnesota Duluth and closed the day with a 10-1 hammering of Minot State in five innings.  Poor field conditions in St. Joseph, Mo. forced several of the MIAA schools to make last minute travel adjustments to Emporia State in the last 24 hours.

The change in venue did nothing to effect to the RiverHawks (14-10) who got off to a roaring start with Paige Gann hitting her sixth homer of the season in the opening frame to plate two against UMD.  Jessica Boone later in the same inning hit a ground ball RBI for their third run.

One inning later, Haley Acrey gave the RiverHawks a four run lead scoring a RBI on a sac fly.

The run support for was more than enough for Gail Young (7-4) who tossed a four-hit ballgame with six strikeouts.   Acrey finished the game 3-for-3 and Boone scored her second RBI for NSU in the fifth.

The loss for Minnesota Duluth (15-4) snapped a nine game winning streak.

In nightcap after leading 1-0 into the third, the RiverHawks batted around the order to plate seven runs on the Beavers (13-5).    Both Acrey and Boone had a pair of RBIs in the 10-1 win with four NSU players having two hit evenings.

Sydney Balderrama (7-3) was lights out for Northeastern State and tossed a two-hitter with five strikeouts.

Northeastern State will return to the field on Saturday to face Winona State at 2 p.m. with Augustana following.
