TAHLEQUAH, Okla.--- Northeastern State rallied from a six run deficit to pick up an important 7-6 victory over Pittsburg State in MIAA action at Rousey Field here Tuesday.
The RiverHawks pick up their fifth victory in a five day stretch to improve to 16-10 and 7-6 in conference play.
The sixth inning proved to be the difference in the game, NSU plated all seven runs in the frame sending 17 batters to the plate. Trailing 6-0 to start the sixth,
Zack Henderson walked that was followed by a
Jaxon Phipps single. Henderson scored on the first of two Gorillas errors in the inning.
Zane Takhar doubled to right field cutting the Pitt State lead down to 6-2.
The RiverHawks rally continued as
Tristan Ridenour's sacrifice fly plated Takhar. A walk, error and hit by pitch had the bases loaded. A two RBI single from
Alex Massie cut the lead down to one at 6-5. Henderson in his second plate appearance of the inning followed with a single to tie the game at 6-6. Another hit batsman loaded the bases again
 Takhar drew a two-out walk and his second RBI of the frame to give the RiverHawks the 7-6 lead.
NSU pitchers after up six runs through six running turned into lockdown mode over the final three inning to secure the 7-6 victory.Â
Lane Rice (3-0) came on in relief to pick up his third victory of the year and
Ben Strahm collected his first save of the year.Â
The RiverHawks will return to action on March 27
th as it will travel to take on Central Oklahoma. Game time is set for 3:00 p.m..
