LINCOLN, Neb. – For the sixth straight year Northeastern State will play for a MIAA Women's Tennis Tournament Championship following a 5-0 sweep over Washburn (12-8) on Tuesday evening.Â
Â
One year ago, the RiverHawks (17-4) got over the hump in their fifth try at the league's postseason title, and won its last 24Â matches against MIAA teams in postseason and regular season play.
Â
A 25th win on Wednesday evening would give Northeastern State its seventh overall women's tennis title in six years of MIAA membership.
Â
Even more impressive is the dominance NSU has had its last six contests where they have only lost one dual point, and has swept its last four opponents. Â
Â
Northeastern State set the pace early on the Ichabods in doubles.Â
Mayra Jovic and
Karla Tomaic throttled Washburn's Logan Morrissey and Alexis Czapinski, 8-2 on the main court; the Ichabods duo were ranked No.4 in the nation.
Â
Just two weeks ago, Washburn took a 2-1 doubles lead on the RiverHawks. Following that match, NSU used a new doubles lineup which has been 17-1 overall.
Â
With the three point lead and needing two wins to clinch, the RiverHawks'
Molly Worden came off the court first with a 6-4, 6-3 win on court three.Â
Tatjana Stoll was the overall match clincher on the main court with her 18th straight win beating WU's Czapinski 6-2, 6-0.
Â
First serve for the MIAA Championship match on Wednesday evening will be at 6 p.m.
