RiverHawks season ends in NCAA National Quarterfinal

SURPRISE, Ariz. –  No. 7 Northeastern State's historic season came to an end after falling 5-1 to No. 3 Columbus State in the quarterfinals of the NCAA Division II tournament.

NSU sophomore and the sixth ranked player in the nation, Tatjana Stoll was the team's lone point in the contest.  Stoll rocked No. 9 ranked Beatriz Lopez, 6-3, 6-0 on the RiverHawks main court.

During her freshman season at Armstrong State, Stoll lost to Lopez in three previous matches.  The win on the main court gave Stoll her 50th career victory in singles, and a 31-4 record this season at Northeastern State.

The RiverHawks dug themselves a hole that they could never recover from and fell behind 3-0 after dropping each match in the doubles portion.  NSU's Molly Worden and Chantal Nosievici fell 8-3 along with Tatjana Stoll and Easton ParkerMayra Jovic and Karla Tomaic dropped a close 8-6 match.

In singles play, the RiverHawks pressed the issue on the Cougars early and held leads on five courts to leave the possibility of a comeback.

The first blow for NSU came on court four with Betka Gombarova falling 6-1, 6-0 to put the RiverHawks on the brink of being swept.

Stoll prevented the sweep on court one and Jovic was at overall match point on court two when the contest ended.

Wednesday's loss ended the RiverHawks season at 20-5 with their fourth program appearance in the national quarterfinals.
