TAHLEQUAH -- The RiverHawks Women's Soccer team scored two goals in the second half to cruise past the Washburn Ichabods on a chilly Friday night at DeLoache Field.
NSU is now 7-3-1, with a 2-2-0 record in conference action while Washburn drops to 5-5, with a 1-3 mark in conference play.
NSU got on the board in the 15th minute when
Sommer Franks took a corner kick and put it into the box, where
Paulina Chavez rose above the pack and headed it into the net.Â
The Ichabods scored four minutes later to tie the score. It remained that way until the 80th minute, when
Paige Lorenzo took a penalty kick and put it just past the keeper into the lower-left corner of the net to put the RiverHawks back in the lead.Â
Mariah Nicolet scored her fifth of the season two minutes later to give NSU some breathing room, which they ended up not needing, as the Ichabods were unable to get a shot off in the final eight minutes.
NSU outshot the Ichabods 22-8, with a 14-2 differential in the second half. NSU also had 12 corner kicks to just two for Washburn.Â
The RiverHawks will wrap up their homestand on Sunday afternoon when they welcome the Emporia State Hornets to DeLoache Field. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
