TAHLEQUAH --
Flynn Semmerling netted the first hat trick for the RiverHawks Men's Soccer team since Oct. 27, 2018 on Saturday afternoon to lead the RiverHawks to a 4-1 win over No. 18 Fort Hays State.
NSU is now 7-6 overall and 5-4 in conference action. This was the first conference loss for the Tigers, who are now 8-4-1 this season and 7-1-1 in GAC play.
Semmerling picked up his first goal in the third minute, when he took advantage of a Tiger turnover and put the ball in the lower-left corner of the net. His second goal came in the 19th minute off a pass from
Ben Watson to put NSU up 2-0.
Semmerling picked up his third in the 25th minute, again on a breakaway off a turnover by Fort Hays State. This time he put it in the upper-right corner of the net to extend the NSU lead to 3-0.
Sadaam Yousufzai also had a goal, with his coming in the 32nd minute off a corner kick from
Sam Scarth that made it a 4-0 lead, which NSU took into the half.
Fort Hays State got on the board in the 85th minute when Arsenio Chamorro beat RiverHawks keeper
Justin Hinman, but it was too little too late for the Tigers, who couldn't find any other offense.
NSU outshot the Tigers 20-11, with Semmerling compiling five shots, with four on goal.
Sam Scarth and
Aaron Ugbah both had three shots for the RiverHawks while
Luis Soler had two.
The RiverHawks will be back in action on Thursday night when they face Okla. Baptist on the road. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. in Shawnee.
