KEARNEY, Neb. -- The RiverHawks Women's Soccer team saw their five-match win streak come to a screeching halt on Friday night, as they lost to Nebraska-Kearney 1-0 despite outshooting the Lopers 15-6, with a 14-3 advantage in shots on goal.
NSU now moves to 10-4-1 on th season and 5-3 in conference action. The Lopers picked up their first conference win of the season, and now have an overall record of 2-7-6.
The lone goal scored in the match came in the 39th minute, when Megan Merkel took a Lopers corner kick and played the ball to Isabella Whiston, who put it in the lower-right section of the net to give the Lopers a 1-0 lead.
The Lopers survived an onslaught of shots in the second half including five shots on goal and four corner kicks, all of which were repelled by Kearney.
Callie Rucker and
Mariah Nicolet both led the way with three shots on goal, with
Hannah Heaton,
Meagan Chase and
Livy Wagner all adding two shots on goal.
The RiverHawks will continue MIAA competition on Sunday afternoon when they face Fort Hays State. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. in Hays, Kan.
