HAYS, Kan. --
Paulina Chavez scored the lone goal on Sunday afternoon as Northeastern State earned a narrow 1-0 win over Fort Hays State.
NSU struck in the 23rd minute when
Meagan Chase took the ball and delivered a pass to Chavez, who put it in the lower-left corner of the net, just past the Tigers goalie to put the RiverHawks up 1-0.
Neither team was able to score again, despite NSU posting 19 shots on the match compared to just seven for the Tigers.Â
Fort Hays only managed one shot on goal, which came in the 81st minute and was easily repelled by NSU goalkeeper
Ainsley Cunningham.Â
Sarah Rector had three shots on goal for the RiverHawks, while Chavez,
Livy Wagner and
Mariah Nicolet all had one shot on goal. Nicolet had five shots total, while Rector had four shots.Â
NSU is now 11-4-1 this season and 6-3 in conference action. The Tigers fall to 8-4-2, and 4-2-2 in conference matches.
The RiverHawks will return to DeLoache Field on Friday when they face Rogers State at 7 p.m.. They will wrap up the regular season on Sunday when they host Newman at 1 p.m.
