RiverHawks slide past Hillcats 3-2 in double overtime

TAHLEQUAH – Mariah Nicolet scored in the 108th minute to lead the RiverHawks Women's Soccer team to a 3-2 double overtime win over Rogers State on Friday night at DeLoache Field. The win puts the RiverHawks at 12-4-1 overall and 7-3 in MIAA play. The Hillcats fall to 5-7-5 this season and 3-3-4 in conference matches.

The RiverHawks were trailing late in the second half, despite getting numerous good chances. That all changed in the 86th minute when Meagan Chase got the ball and put it in the upper-right corner of the net to even the score at two and send it to overtime.

Both teams traded goals throughout the match, with Rogers State scoring first in the 53rd minute off the foot of Hannah Mushisky. NSU responded just seconds later when Nicolet fed a pass to Paige Lorenzo who finished the job to pull the RiverHawks into a 1-1 tie. In the 62nd minute the Hillcats scored again, this one from Maggie Brown off a free kick from just outside the box.

Nicolet finished the night with the one goal and one assist off four shots on goal. Chase contributed three shots on goal while Sarah Rector, Paulina Chavez and Lorenzo all had two shots on goal. As a team, NSU came away with 16 shots on goal compared to 10 for the Hillcats.

NSU will wrap up the regular season on Sunday afternoon when they host Newman for their Senior Day. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. at DeLoache Field.
