SHAWNEE -- Northeastern State (9-6, 6-4 MIAA) picked up their third consecutive win on Monday night, as they outlasted Oklahoma Baptist (4-10-1, 2-8-1 MIAA).
The RiverHawks got on the board first in the 28th minute when
Flynn Semmerling took a pass from
Tom Singhgolden and put it in the lower-right corner of the net. Just two minutes later,
Aaron Ugbah scored in the same corner of the net to make it a 2-0 lead for NSU.
That was the score coming out of the half, but it didn't last long. In the 68th minute, OBU picked up a goal from Luis Romero to cut the lead to just one. The RiverHawks responded in the 85th minute when
Ben Watson beat the Bison Goalkeeper to make it a 3-1 lead.
The Bison picked up their second goal just three minutes later, when Alejandro Castillo converted a penalty kick, but they would end up falling short, including one final shot by Greyson Sykes that missed the net high right in the final minute.
Semmerling led the way for NSU with eight shots, while
Sam Scarth, Watson, Singhgolden and
James Doyle all had three shots on the night. In total, the RiverHawks registered 26 shots, 10 of which were on goal. They allowed just eight shots from the Bison, three of which were on goal.
The RiverHawks will be back in action on Friday evening when they face Rogers State in a road match. They will be back at DeLoache Field on Nov. 7 when they host Harding in their final regular-season match.
