RiverHawks slip past Lions 2-1

TAHLEQUAH -- The RiverHawks Women's Soccer team beat the Missouri Southern Lions on a rainy Sunday afternoon to pick up their first MIAA win of the season.

NSU now holds a record of 6-3-1, with a 1-2-0 mark in conference play. The Lions fell to a record of 2-8-0, with a record of 1-2-0 in conference action.

The RiverHawks got on the board in the 25th minute when Mariah Nicolet scored her sixth goal of the season to put NSU up 1-0. The Lions tied the match in the 68th minute, but just eight minutes later, Paige Lorenzo scored her first goal of the season to put NSU back in front. The Lions had a late flurry of shots, but RiverHawks goalkeeper Ainsley Cunningham stood tall to pick up the win.

NSU dominated the match, outshooting the Lions 24-8, with 15 of those shots coming in the second half alone. Nicolet led the RiverHawks with six sots, and four on goal. Lorenzo contributed five shots, four of which were on goal. NSU also had five corners to just one for Missouri Southern.
