NSU splits games for second straight day

OKLAHOMA CITY – Northeastern State split its games for the second day in row shutting out East Central 4-0, and later falling 6-5 to Cameron in the nightcap.

Gail Young spun her first shutout of the season in the first game against East Central (0-2) to move to 4-0 this season in the circle.  The sophomore did not strike out any Tiger batters.  However, Young got ECU to hit into three inning ending double plays in the final three frames.

Three of NSU's runs would come in the opening inning with Sierra Crick hitting a ground ball RBI and Addie Elbon driving in two with a two out single.

Haley Acrey had the RiverHawks' fourth run in the fifth on a RBI double.

Cameron Conrad went 2-for-4 from the leadoff position.

In the nightcap, Cameron (7-3) tagged the RiverHawks for two runs in the second inning for the early lead.

All of NSU's runs came in the home half of the third where they hung a five spot on the Aggies.  Elbon highlighted the inning with a bases clearing three RBI triple.

Northeastern State's lead was short-lived and the Aggies got four runs in the following a frame.  A one out three-run homer would be the difference in the game.

NSU would spoil opportunities to help themselves in the final three innings after getting the lead runner on each time.  In the seventh, they would load the bases with one out, but the game would end on a line out and strike out.
The RiverHawks were limited to four hits but drew nine walks against Cameron.  Madison Boyd would reach base times on a walk, which is the most for a NSU player since at-least 2009.

Northeastern State will go to 5-3 this season and wraps up its trip on Monday morning against Southeastern Oklahoma at 10 a.m.
