ARKADELPHIA, Ark. --Northeastern State's
Addie Elbon was 5-6 at the plate as the RiverHawks dropped a pair of games on the final day of the Alvy Early Memorial Classic here Sunday. NSU fell 6-3 to Ouachita Baptist and 9-0 to #2 Southern Arkansas.
The RiverHawks fall to 5-8 on the year.
In the opener, Northeastern State surrendered six runs and 10 hits as Ouachita Baptist captured a 6-3 victory.
The Tigers used a four-run second inning and added another in the third to jump out to jump out to a 5-0 lead after three innings.
The RiverHawks put their first run on the board in the fifth innings in an unconventional way.
Addie Elbon was hit by a pitch,
Haley Acrey and
Jess Schuler were walked to load the bases. Elbon then scored on a passed ball to pull to within 5-1.
OBU added an insurance run in the sixth inning extending the lead to 6-1 heading into the final inning.
Northeastern State did not go quietly, Elbon was hit by another pitch and scored on an Acrey single and error. After
Sierra Crick was hit by a pitch,
Alyssia Crick's single to cut the OBU lead in half at 6-3. The RiverHawks were able to no closer leaving two on as Ouachita Baptist took the 6-3 victory.
NSU starter
Gail Young lasted just two and third innings in taking the loss.
Alex Azua came on in relief giving up five hits and striking out five.
In the nightcap, the RiverHawks fell to #2 ranked Southern Arkansas 9-0.
Addie Elbon collected two hits in the loss.
NSU will make its 2019 home debut next weekend at it will host the RiverHawks Festival.
