Harmon's walk-off hit highlights softball split

TAHLEQUAH – NSU softball split the final day of its invitational falling 14-10 to Doane and beating Kansas Wesleyan in a 5-4 walk-off on Monday.

The RiverHawks took three-of-four in their first home series and improves its record to 8-9 overall.

Northeastern State opened the contest red hot and plated nine runs in the first three innings.  However, for the RiverHawks the contest turned on a dime in the sixth with Doane getting back in the game after putting up a six-spot on the scoreboard.

The Tigers trimmed the NSU lead to down to one with a swing of the bat in the fifth to score two more runs.

NSU added to their lead in the fifth on a fielder's choice to make it 10-8 on the Tigers.

Doane wasn't done and they scored a run in the sixth and dropped five in the final inning on four hits.

Northeastern State was out-hit by seven with ten as a team.  Alyssia Crick and Kelsey Harmon both had two hit, two RBI games.  Alex Azua (1-2) was charged with the loss after tossing the final three innings.

In the nightcap, the RiverHawks trailed Kansas Wesleyan 4-0 into the sixth inning.  With two outs in the frame, Randi Castillo hit an RBI double, then Hannah Ailey had an RBI single, and Cameron Conrad hit a ball to right center for NSU's third run.  The RiverHawks would then tie the game on a defensive miscue by the Coyotes.

Sierra Crick opened the seventh out with an infield single and later stole second to get into scoring position.  A ground out moved Crick to third for Kelsey Harmon who hit an RBI single down the right-field line.

The RiverHawks had eight hits in the win with Sierra Crick going 2-for-4.  Gail Young (6-3) spun a complete game with four strikeouts.

Northeastern State is scheduled next to travel to Joplin for an invitational starting on Saturday.
