Elbon hits walk-off in NSU softball split

OKLAHOMA CITY -- Addie Elbon's walk off single in the seventh inning propelled the RiverHawks to a 2-1 victory in the opening game of the Edmond Regional Festival at Tom Heath Field here Saturday. NSU fell to Colorado Christian University in the nightcap 8-3.

Gail Young turned in a complete game performance in the opener leading the RiverHawks to a 2-1 walk off victory over Texas Women's. Young allowed four hit and struck out five moving to 3-0 on the young season.

Trailing 1-0 after four innings of play, the RiverHawks tied the game in the fifth inning.  Sierra Crick singled and stole second. Alyssa Crick followed with another single and a throwing error scored Sierra Crick to tie the game at 1-1.

In the final frame, NSU took advantage of two timely hits that included Addie Elbon's walk off single giving the RiverHawks the 2-1 victory.

Northeastern State improved to 4-1 on the year with the victory.  Haley Acrey and Alyssa Crick led the RiverHawks with two hits apiece.

In the nightcap, Cameron Conrad's double, and RBI singles from Sierra Crick and Elbon gave the RiverHawks a 3-0 after one inning of play.

That is all NSU would muster as the Cougars would score eight unanswered runs to 8-3.

Sydney Balderrama took the loss in the circle, allowing 13 hits in five and third innings.

The RiverHawks will continue play on Sunday with games against East Central and Cameron and will conclude on Monday against Southeastern Oklahoma state.
