TAHLEQUAH – A 47 MIAA match winning streak came to a halt in #17 Northeastern State's conference opener on Saturday with a 4-3 loss to #18 Southwest Baptist.
The program's last loss coincidently came in their conference opener during the 2014 season at Emporia State.
Southwest Baptist (5-2, 1-1 MIAA) in their final MIAA meeting with NSU grabbed an early point in doubles play winning on courts one and two.
In singles, the RiverHawks clawed their way back with three wins.
Emma Warnock won her first match since 2017 in six-singles with a two-set sweep.
Kristela Vidnere won 6-3, 6-2 in NSU's three-singles slot. On the main court, #33
Tatjana Stoll got the best of #11 Jill Van Den Dungen, 6-4, 6-1 for her 12th win over a nationally ranked opponent.
SBU would win on courts two and five to even the match at 3-3. With one court to play, the Bearcats worked some late third set magic to dig out of a 4-1 deficit, and winning five straight games for the match win.
NSU falls to 2-3 overall and 0-1 in MIAA action.
The RiverHawks will now head to Pensacola for their non-conference matches during spring break.
