RiverHawks Win Pair at ESU Classic

EMPORIA, Kan. --- The Northeastern State softball stayed hot with a pair of victories over Upper Iowa and Wayne State at the ESU Classic at the Trusler Complex her Friday.

The RiverHawks rallied for a 6-3 victory over Upper Iowa in the opener and hung on for a 2-0 win over Wayne State.

Northeastern State has now won three straight, and seven of their last eight.

Gail Young turned in her 14th complete game of the year and moved to 12-4 with the victory over the Peacocks.  Young allowed three runs, scattered 11 hits and fanned four.

After falling behind 3-0, Northeastern State plated a run in the second, tied the game with two runs in the third inning and took the lead with two more in the fourth to lead 5-3.

NSU added an insurance run in the sixth inning to finish the 6-3 victory.

Alyssia Crick fueled the NSU rally going 2-4 at the plate with two RBI.  Cameron Conrad, Kelsey Harmon, Haley Acrey, Jess Schuler, and Madison Boyd also picked up hits.

Acrey's two-run bomb was all the RiverHawks needed picking up a 2-0 victory over Wayne State.

Sydney Balderrama earned her first shutout of the year, allowing just four hits and struck out four in six innings of work.  Young came on to record the final three out and grab her second save of the year.

The RiverHawks improve to 19-12 on the year, and will take on Concordia St. Paul on the final day of the ESU Classic.  Game time is scheduled for 12:30 pm.
