TAHLEQUAH – Northeastern State swept Northwest Missouri for the first time since 2013 with a 6-0 win in game one a 10-1 run-rule contest in the nightcap on Friday afternoon.
With the two wins, the RiverHawks improve to 12-11 and 3-1 in the MIAA.
Gail Young (8-4) spun a complete game six-hit shutout in the opener.
Cameron Conrad broke a scoreless game after three innings with an RBI single before
Kyla Ibarra hit her first homer of the season to give NSU a 3-0 lead over the Bearcats.
Jess Schuler added the RiverHawks' fourth run in the fifth. Conrad and
Taylor Vaughan both hit RBI singles for NSU in the sixth to extend the NSU lead to 6-0.
Conrad and Ibarra had 2-for-3 games at the plate with two RBI.
In the nightcap, the final scored did not reflect the first 5 1/2 innings where it was a 2-1 ballgame heading into the bottom of the sixth. The RiverHawks sent ten batters up to the plate and banged out five hits on Northwest's pitching.
Haley Acrey capped the sixth with a two-run homer to left to end the contest.
Sydney Balderrama (3-5) tossed a complete game four-hitter and struck out four batters.
Madison Boyd had two hits with two RBI in the game to move her career total to 190. The NSU graduate student is nine hits off from breaking the softball program's hit record.
Kelsey Harmon and Schuler both had two RBI in the contest.
The Bearcats fall to 3-9 and 0-4 in the MIAA.
Northeastern State will be on the road next weekend and will face Lincoln and Lindenwood in continued MIAA play.
