TAHLEQUAH, Okla. ----
Haley Acrey homered twice and had six RBI as the RiverHawks split a doubleheader against Central Missouri in MIAA softball action at RiverHawks Park here Friday. NSU took the opener 6-1 and fell in 10 innings 8-7 in game two.
Northeastern State moves to 23-20 on the year and 11-7 in conference play.
Gail Young went the distance in the opener, allowing only one run on three hits and striking out seven to pick up the victory in the opener. Â Young came on in relief in game two and pitched the final five innings and credited with loss moving her record to 14-8.
Haley Acrey's three-run home run capped off a four-run first inning as the RiverHawks took game one 6-1 over Central Missouri.
Northeastern State took control early and never looked back. Â
Alyssia Crick led off with a double to center field. Â Maddie Boyd reached on a fielding error. Â
Jess Schuler's double gave NSU a 1-0 lead.
Acrey cleared the bags with her team-high sixth home run of the year and a 4-0 RiverHawks lead.
The RiverHawks added two more in the fourth inning. Â
Sierra Crick tripled and scored on a
Cameron Conrad double. Â
Alyssia Crick picked up the other RBI with a single giving NSU a 6-0 lead.Â
Central Missouri managed to plate its only run in the fifth inning as the RiverHawks took the opener 6-1.
Game two started off just like the opener,
Alyssia Crick walked,
Addie Elbon singled and Acrey cleared the bases with a three-run blast to center field, her seventh of the year to give NSU a 3-0 lead after one inning.
The Jennies got one back in the second inning of NSU starter
Sydney Balderrama with a solo home run.
UCM tied the game in the fourth inning with back to back hits and two NSU errors tied the game at 3-3.
The RiverHawks regained the lead in the home half of the fourth inning. Â
Kyla Ibarra singled to open the frame moved to second on a sacrifice bunt from
Cameron Conrad. Â
Alyssia Crick's RBI single moved NSU back in front 4-3.
Central Missouri responded in the fifth with three hits and took advantage of another NSU error to plate three runs to take a 6-4 lead.
Northeastern State again answered. Â Schuler singled and Acrey walked to open the inning.
Sierra Crick advanced the runners with a sacrifice bunt. Â In a pinch-hit situation,
Randi Castillo reached on a fielders choice and a Jennie's error plated the first run of the inning. Ibarra followed with a bunt single to tie the game at 6-6 through five innings.
The RiverHawks nor Jennies could get any offense going over the final two innings send the game to extras tied at 6-6.
Central Missouri produced two hits in the ninth inning to plate a run giving the Jennies a 7-6 lead.
As in the innings before, NSU answered. Â
Kelsey Harmon tied the game with one swing with a blast to center field, her second of the year.
In the 10th inning, a leadoff single turned into the go-ahead run for Central Missouri. Â An infield single to shortstop gave UCM an 8-7.
Northeastern State was not able to answer in the 10th giving UCM the 8-7 victory.
The RiverHawks will return to the diamond next weekend for its final home games of the 2019 season.
Washburn will visit RiverHawks Park on April 19th for a doubleheader and Emporia State on April 20th.
